Academics at TIMES² Academy
The academic focus at TIMES² Academy is 'to improve mathematics, engineering and science studies'.  With this focus in mind, the academics at TIMES² Academy is centered around incorporating math and science into all subject areas beginning in kindergarten through the students' senior year of high school.  We incorporate a central focus of engineering and physics principles into the curriculum at an early age to teach students how the concepts affect every aspect of their daily lives. Additionally, the incorporation of various technologies better prepares students for a variety of teaching and learning experiences, not only in the classrooms, but beyond the four walls of TIMES² Academy.

TIMES² Academy features a learning environment where students are introduced to challenging, real world applications of engineering, math and science through a variety of ways.  Beginning in 6th grade through 12th grade, TIMES² Academy students participate in the school science fair to help them begin thinking about how science is applied in their day to day lives.  Through middle and high school, students are encouraged to learn more about careers in their areas of interest related to the STEM principles through job shadowing and internships.  In addition, students are encouraged by staff and faculty through after school and summer programs to further pursue their interests and enhance their college and career paths.

The curriculum at TIMES² Academy  is aligned with the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's grade level and span expectations, as well as the Common Core Standards.  TIMES² Academy uses the New England Common Assessments Program (NECAP) as the primary source of assessment, along with the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) as a secondary measure.
Elementary School

The Elementary School consists of grades kindergarten through 6th grades.  Our goal at the elementary level is to keep the class sizes smaller to allow for the best possible instruction.  For more information regarding the elementary school, please contact Tom Lombardi , Dean of Academics, K-6, at (401) 272-5094, ext. 424.

The curriculum focus of the elementary school is on literacy with a strong emphasis on integration of math and science across all subjects.  We understand the importance of developing the basic skills of reading and writing, then applying the knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering.

Middle School

The middle school consists of 7th and 8th grades.   For more information regarding the middle or high school, please contact Katherine Maloney, Dean of Academics, 7-12, at (401) 272-5094, ext. 107.

The curriculum for the middle school prepares students for the rigorous demands of the TIMES² Academy High School.  Algebra I is taught in 8th grade to ensure students are ready for the challenges of the high school math and science curriculums.  Additionally, science Fair challenges middle school students to begin to take abstract concepts in science, technology, engineering and math and see them become concrete.  It allows them to expand their interest in the STEM fields beyond the confines of the classroom and textbooks.

High School

The high school at TIMES² Academy is the bridge between the Academy and the real world.  It is during this time that TIMES² students have the opportunity to explore colleges and careers in their field of interest.

The high school curriculum utilizes project based learning, as well as classroom instruction.  In the sciences, lab work, science fair and hands-on projects are a large portion of the instruction.  TIMES² Academy teaches 'physics first' in the 9th grade to prepare students for engineering studies at the college level.  Also, the math courses at the high school level are demanding.  Although the academic program at TIMES² is tough, our students leave us prepared to be the nation's next scientists, engineers and mathematicians.
