Afterschool Programs
We are very excited to be partnered with AmeriCorps CharterCorps program, Providence College Feinstein Institute and several other community partners for this year's exciting new afterschool program.
In the fall of 2010, TIMES² Academy partnered with Highlander Charter School to create the Charter Corps, an AmeriCorps program focused on serving local independent and charter schools through hands-on help in classrooms, literacy and math instructional assistance, and afterschool programming that works to connect in-school and afterschool learning.
The Charter Corps is also a vehicle for urban residents to take control of their neighborhoods by learning the skills necessary for educational and service-related employment. Currently, the Charter Corps is a team of 14 members who commit to 1700 hours of service at Highlander and TIMES² for the 2010-2011 school year. Members receive a living stipend, health care and an Education Award at the completion of their service year.
Based on the success of the Charter Corps model, we are looking to expand the Charter Corps AmeriCorps Program to serve more schools, communities, and Corps members in the future.
