VSA arts Rhode Island Relief Sculpture Project
Students in grades K-12, along with artist-in-residece, Susan Clarke, have designed, built and installed a 3D mural. The relief sculpture of the world's aquatic biomes includes the zones of the intertidal, pelagic and benthic zones of the ocean, plus the coral reef. The mixed medium mural contains designs created from clay, plaster, cardboard, wood, tile and foam. The interdisciplinary project enabled students to apply science and math in the visual arts process. Mr. Michael DiMucci and Mrs. Jill Grey were the co-coordinators of the project with content science content knowledge provided by Dr. Mark Fontaine. The construction and installation was led and implemented by Mr. Adelso Porras. This project was made possible by funding from VSA arts Rhode Island.
