TIMES2 Institute to Host STEM Talks Rhode Island Event for High School Students at New England Institute of Technology on Thursday, February 28, 2019

February 26th, 2019 (East Greenwich, Rhode Island) - TIMES2 Institute is excited to welcome 100 Rhode Island high school students to their STEM Talks Rhode Island event on Thursday, February 28th, 2019. The invite-only event, which is focused on increasing participation of underrepresented populations in STEM education and careers, is the second of three STEM Talks Rhode Island events that TIMES2 Institute will facilitate throughout the 2018-2019 academic year. New England Institute of Technology in East Greenwich, Rhode Island will serve as the location for this free event. A complimentary continental breakfast and lunch will be served to all attendees.

This year’s first STEM Talks Rhode Island event took place on Wednesday, December 5th and featured a Keynote Speech by the 2019 Rhode Island Techer of the Year, Charlene Tuttle. The third and final 2018-2019 STEM Talks Rhode Island event will be the I.D.E.AL. (Increasing Diversity Engagement and Leadership) STEM Conference for Youth which will bring together 200 middle and high school students for a day of STEM-based learning at Rhode Island College on Saturday, May 4th, 2019.

At the February 28th STEM Talks Rhode Island event, students will hear remarks from Darwin Salazar, a Product Security Analyst at Johnson & Johnson in Providence, Rhode Island. Mr. Salazar is a 2018 graduate of Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. During his time at the University, Mr. Salazar served as the Founding President and Advisor of the Salve Regina University Cybersecurity Club. He was also selected to travel to Tel Aviv, Israel as a 2018 Cybersecurity Fellow along with a group of international students from Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University Shanghai as well as other colleges and universities.

In addition, students will also hear remarks from TextUp Co-Founders and recent Brown University graduates Michelle Petersen and Eric Bai. TextUp combines a cloud-based phone system with a CRM platform tailored to the needs of social workers and care providers. TextUp has been featured in the Providence Business News, Mass Challenge, the National Association of Social Workers and other publications. In November 2018, TextUp was awarded the Rhode Island Tech10 Award by the Tech Collective, Rhode Island’s foremost Information Technology Association.
